Dance

Boys and girls are taught Dance once a week by our specialist teachers and classes are accompanied by a pianist. Children will have the opportunity to perform in a number of Performing Arts productions.

Reception - In the Reception Class work is based on stories and mime to stimulate imagination and increase confidence.

Year 1 and Year 2 - Emphasis is placed on learning basic dance steps, memorising short sequences of steps, distinguishing between different rhythms and time signatures and interpreting music using their own movements and steps. Country Dancing is introduced.

Year 3 - More complex steps are added to the dance repertoire. National and Country Dances are taught. With the pianist supporting, the children are encouraged to create dances in groups expressing emotion or a story. Self expression in dance is actively promoted at this stage.

St Hilary's offers a Dance Scholarship for children going into Year 3.  This is a 10% academic fee reduction for the duration of the time the child attends the school.
