Following a very wet and windy qualifier in the midst of Storm Barra in December 2021, 7 pupils progressed through to the Finals of the British Modern Biathlon Championships, taking place at the University of Bath on 26th February 2022. Good luck to everyone taking part and watch this space for the final results and rankings!
Pupils also attended a qualifier for the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships on yet another wet and windy local event on Saturday 8th January 2022. Everyone completed their run and swim brilliantly, given the conditions on the day! 15 pupils have qualified to the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championship Finals set to take place on the 19th and 20th March 2022 at the University of Bath.
St Hilary’s is also delighted to have a pupil taking part in the IAPS National Triathlon Championships taking place in May this year. The ESSA Swimming Championships and IAPS Swimming Qualifiers are fast approaching and the weekly swim squad are now fully focussing on their relay takeovers, starts and finishes to fully prepare them for these high level events.
The girls have been super excited to get back to netball this term and are looking forward to some high level tournaments as well as many inter school fixtures against a range of schools such as St Catherine’s, Barrow Hills and Hoe Bridge. In preparation for the Regional IAPS Qualifying round, the U11s will be competing in Saturday netball tournaments at Hawthorns School and Prior’s Field to get them used to the fast pace of tournament netball as well as some extra training session during half term.
The forthcoming Gymnastics Festival at Prior’s Field is a highlight for the gymnasts at St Hilary’s and the girls have been practising at home and at school for this event. They have taken on different conditioning sessions each week to build their strength and agility.
Our boys are thoroughly looking forward to the action-packed schedule this term with the first set of fixtures dedicated to Tag-Rugby. The next set of fixtures, as the term progresses, sees the boys donning their shin-pads and mouth-guards on the hockey pitch where we will travel to Dunhurst, Longacre and Barrow Hills, to name a few. The boys are also looking forward to competing alongside our girls in many swimming galas, and there are Cross-Country events at Loseley Park to look forward to in the second half of term. There are also inter-house events taking place at school, along with Sport Relief; the fun never stops!
We wish all competitors throughout the school the best of luck in all their events. Their hard work and determination throughout lessons and fixtures makes us all at St Hilary’s very proud.
