St Hilary’s celebrates Miss Hiorns Day in support of Mental Health Day

Miss Hiorns Day took place on Friday 2^nd October to mark the School’s founder. The focus of the day was on Mental Health and Wellbeing, with links to Young Minds, the wonderful mental health charity. Boys and girls wore their yellow PE Kit complemented with a range of yellow accessories. Donations of £240 were collected in support of the Young Minds Charity and pupils’ awareness was successfully raised.

The usual timetable was adapted to incorporate activities linked to Mental Health and Wellbeing. Cross Country was replaced with ‘Calm Country’ at nearby Loseley Park, where pupils chose to walk or run being aware of their senses as they made their way around the beautiful course. Back in school, children took part in team building activities, mindful colouring, origami and yoga. Furthermore, children were encouraged to consider the benefits of exercise on Mental Health, the importance of social interactions and positive relationships with others and ways to show Random Acts of Kindness.

The day ended with thoughtful stories to build on the pupils’ understanding of Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Overall, the day was fun, relaxing whilst interesting and purposeful. Our #HelloYellow day was big and bright as possible and we showed the boys and girls strategies they can use to support their Mental Health and that when things are not easy there are always people they can to turn to for help.
