Key Stage 1

Years 1 and 2

At St Hilary's School we offer an exciting and adventurous curriculum which blends traditional elements with innovative and inspiring teaching designed to broaden the mind and feed our pupil’s thirst for knowledge.

Throughout Years 1 and 2 the children are taught by their class teacher for the majority of subjects, with the addition of specialist teachers and facilities for Art, Dance, French, Music, PE and Games.

Our facilities are excellent, with the children using a specialist computer suite, art room, library, music room and home economics facility, whilst outdoor learning is encouraged in our extensive grounds, with Forest Schools a firm favourite with all the children.

PSCHE is an integral part of our curriculum and weekly lessons provide opportunities for the children to develop social and moral responsibility, community involvement and some of the basic aspects of political literacy: knowing what democracy is and about the basic institutions that support it locally and nationally.

In all areas the subjects studied are influenced by the National Curriculum, however, as an independent school, we are able to offer more and therefore, enhance the curriculum to suit the requirements of our pupils.  Within lessons the varied learning styles of the children are developed and we seek to inspire independent thinkers and learners, equipped to move on to the next stage with confidence.
