Prep

Years 3 - 6

At St Hilary's, we offer an exciting and adventurous curriculum which blends traditional elements with innovative and inspiring teaching designed to broaden the mind and feed our pupils’ thirst for knowledge.

Our facilities are excellent, with the children using a specialist computer suite, art room, design and technology room, library and music room, whilst outdoor learning is encouraged in our extensive grounds and Forest School. In Key Stage 2, at St Hilary’s, Pastoral Care continues to be the responsibility of the Form Teacher but further specialist teaching is introduced.

This prepares the girls and boys for senior school and means that specialist expertise is available during this important Key Stage. We greatly value the individual and pupils benefit hugely from the attention smaller class sizes provide. In all areas, the subjects studied are influenced by the National Curriculum, however, as an independent school we are able to offer more and are therefore able to enhance the curriculum to suit the requirements of our pupils. Within lessons, the varied learning styles of the children are developed and we seek to inspire independent thinkers and learners, equipped to move on to their secondary education with confidence.

The curriculum includes Art, Computing, Design & Technology, Drama, English (including Library skills), Forest School, French, Geography, History, an introduction to Latin, Mathematics, Music, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning, Personal Social and Health Education with Citizenship, Philosophy, Physical Education and Games, Religious Studies and Science. In Year 3 we also include violins and chess within the curriculum. Weekly swimming lessons take place at the local leisure centre.

We offer a broad, balanced curriculum with a supportive extra-curricular programme. This gives individuals the chance to develop talents and receive a well-rounded education.
