Design & Technology
At St Hilary's, Design & Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values.
Pupils will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as Art, Computing, Engineering, Mathematics and Science. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design & technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Design & technology makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of all the pupils here at St Hilary's School.
In Key Stage 1, pupils are taught design & technology by their classroom teacher and it is linked nicely with the overall classroom topic. In Key Stage 2, pupils are taught in our design & technology classroom, where they are able to develop their skills further using different tools, modelling initial ideas, woodwork, textiles and electronics.
