Music plays an important role in everyday life at St Hilary's with pupils singing, playing and experiencing music within the classroom, around the school and beyond.

The musical life of the school is vibrant and diverse, with performances ranging from informal tea time concerts to the prestigious St Hilary's Young Musician competition.  Pupils perform both in school and externally and enjoy frequent trips to musical events and visits from a wide range of professional musicians.

The majority of pupils receive tuition in at least one instrument or in singing.  With the aim of developing individual talent, specialist tuition is offered in brass, woodwind, strings, piano, drum kit and percussion, guitar and singing.  All children in Year 2 learn the ukelele and in Year 3, they learn the violin.

Class music lessons are delivered by specialist teachers throughout the school.  Music lessons are practically based and focus on developing pupils' performance, listening and composition skills.  The extra-curricular provision is wide ranging and inclusive.  Musical clubs include two choirs, orchestra, brass group, flute group and the Guitar All Stars.  All the children have the opportunity to be involved in one of the many productions that take place over the course of the school year.  The standard of music-making in the school is high, with many of our children earning great success in examinations and scholarship auditions.
