Sport
Physical Education and Games feature highly at St Hilary’s and is taught by four PE specialists. Although participation features highly, there are teams that compete against other schools and in tournaments within Surrey with a more competitive nature.
All pupils in Years 2 - 6 have the opportunity to play competitive sport and represent the school. Over the past few years, St Hilary's has gained a reputation for its highly competitive level of sport, playing amongst the best schools within the area. Successes have included district records in athletics and qualification into the National IAPS Netball Finals two years running and in the English Schools Swimming Association National Championship Finals.
The PE department gives all pupils equality of opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced range of activities. All pupils experience a variety of competitive and challenging situations. Through enjoyable learning experiences, we hope to foster a positive attitude towards physical activity, an increase in self confidence and a feeling of achievement. The PE department endorses whole heartedly the aim of helping pupils reach their full potential.
In order to achieve these aims the PE syllabus provides a balanced programme of activities that will give the children knowledge, skills and understanding in the following areas of study:
Key Stage 2 - Netball, Hockey, Multi-Games (inc. tag rugby, football, hockey and pop lacrosse), Swimming, Gymnastics, Cricket, Tennis and Athletics
Key Stage 1 - Ball handling skills, Football, Tag Rugby, Uni Hoc, Gymnastics, Athletics, Tennis, Cricket and Swimming
EYFS - Children in Reception also benefit from specialist PE lessons.
There is a House System with inter-house competitions throughout the year. Swimming Galas and Sports Days involve all pupils.
St Hilary’s operates an all inclusive policy and the fixture list is full and varied. St Hilary’s competes successfully at IAPS events and against other schools. There are additional opportunities to participate in clubs such as Judo, Street Dance and Football. The ethos is participation for all.
Facilities include: six netball courts (flood lit), a grass pitch and a flood-lit astro-turf pitch. Swimming takes place at Broadwater Leisure Centre and Charterhouse School. In addition, we have the Hiorns Centre, a multi-purpose building providing an indoor space in which match teas can be hosted.
